Developmental Editing

A developmental editor first assesses the manuscript at the paragraph, chapter, and book levels and finds the overall areas that require work. This is the first of three editing services that make up the Bennett Media & Marketing Developmental Editing service. A free Content Edit, the second step, starts after major changes have been made. The work will be proofread for grammar, spelling, and punctuation problems by the content editor. Before going into production, the document will lastly go through a Quality Review to make sure it is sound editorially.

• The editor will examine the readership and genre for fiction works to evaluate whether the content is appropriate. Then, we’ll pay particular attention to elements like story, tempo, characters, and dialogue.
• For nonfiction books, the editor will examine the work’s potential applications to see whether the information is relevant and thorough, the concepts are explored sufficiently, and the materials are ordered effectively. All lists, graphs, and pictures will be used properly throughout the book, the editor will ensure.

Content Editing

To check for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and word choice issues, a content editor will conduct a more thorough line edit. The editor will also pay close attention to the content’s accuracy and consistency.

• For books that are fiction, the editor will concentrate on ensuring that the plot, the characters, and the setting are all consistent.
• The editor will concentrate on maintaining the coherence of facts and concepts in nonfiction books.

Line Editing

The work will be edited for complex spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes. Additionally, the editor will give suggestions for strengthening the work’s overall readability by addressing syntax and word choice.
